Classic Steam on the East Lancashire Railway

This DVD features many different steam locomotives in action on the E.L.R. Filmed between August 1990 and January 1993, locomotives as diverse as the Ex SR USA Class 0-6-0T number 30072 and Ex GWR 2-8-0 number 3822 are seen as well as heard. Famous names like "FLYING SCOTSMAN", "BAHAMAS", "BURTON AGNES HALL", "CANADIAN PACIFIC" and many others work passenger duties and keep the past alive for the hoards of visiting enthusiats that come to admire the hard work of the perservationists.

Also, the DVD has several bonus features one of which is a short clip of The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Shot in June 1990 Ex LMS 0-6-0T 47279 and Ex GWR 0-6-0PT 5775 are seen working passenger duties. 5775 in in the livery it is probably best known for, the fictional GN&SR colours created for the film "The Railway Children". The sheds at Oxenhope and Haworth are also visited where many steam and diesel locomotives can be seen at rest.

The main feature runs for 78 minutes and has almost 30 minutes of bonus features.

"The Manchester & Bury Line" starts at Manchester Victoria with a few clips of the mainline station before taking us to Platform 5 and our class 504 E.M.U. for our journey to Bury. The whole line is featured using footage shot from the cab intercut with many lineside shots and station sequences. On arrival at Bury, we visit Bury Car Shops before our return trip to Manchester Victoria. Next is a sequence filmed at Crumpsall after the line from Crumpsall to Manchester had been closed to passengers with services from Bury terminating and turning back. The first train of withdrawn class 504 vehicles is next followed by the last day of class 504 operation filmed at Besses-O'-Th'-Barn including a shot of the last train. The last two trains of redundant class 504 cars are next followed by a sequence of a preserved class 504 at Bolton Street on the E.L.R. working with a class 03 shunter.

Two audio options are available, one featuring live sound only in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, the other in Dolby Digital Stereo containing an informative commentary.

Disc 1:

This bonus disc features full length cab rides in both directions. Archive clips from the 1970's and 1980's. The quality of the archive clips is poor but has been added for the value of the content. There is a sequence of engineers trains during the preperations for conversion to Metrolink and lastly, there is a slideshow of over 70 35mm images mostly from the 1970's. The slides concentrate mainly on the section between Bury Bolton Street and Hagside.

All audio on disc 2 is in Dolby Digital 2 channel mono except for slideshow which is silent.
